ATTENTION
GROWERS! WE HAVE
GINSENG SEEDS! This
falls crop was down, and added to that there were some very large
commercial buys made of this years crop of seeds.
These two factors caused the amount of available seed to be
down a bit. We have made arrangements to reserve a limited amount of seed for this springs planting, and are taking orders now for planting in April. We have a supply of 3-year-old roots available, so we will be having the seed and roots kits also.
It would be good for our regular customers who want seed to get in touch with us as soon as possible. This seed will undoubtedly sell fast and we are not guaranteed of finding any more seed till our spring shipment comes out of the Stratification pits in April.
The root market is coming back; best method is to direct sell to the Chinese. The yellow pages of the Marathon WI phone book and the Wausau WI phone book have them all listed. We recommend you stop by Green Gold in Marathon first. They are good folks to deal with. Pack your roots carefully between layers of cheesecloth, in cardboard boxes.
If you go through the yellow pages in these two towns, all of the Chinese buyers are there, just look under ginseng. (Helpful hint: go to www.switchboard.com and you can search those yellow pages.)
The
prices we are hearing for dried roots at this point are $300-$360
for 5- 7 year old wild, and $140-$160 for woods grown. We continue to have emails asking about the ginseng berry pulp powder; our best information at this point is that the only way to get the berries is grow your own. Course look at it this way, you have your own supply of the berry pulp (just separate it from the seeds and dry in your home dehydrator) and you have the money from selling your seeds or you can plant them and raise more.
The lines of communication are still open between us and the doctor who did the study at the University of Chicago, and we will continue to pay attention to where this goes.
I
would not be surprised if some natural medicine pharmaceutical
company steps up and has this in production with in the next year.
