Spring Has Sprung!!  It's Planting Time!!

Last Call For Spring Seeds!!

The weather has been especially good this spring for seed germination.   The extreme temperature changes are what causes the seeds to germinate.  This spring has been a little late and we have about 3 weeks left to plant in.  Take a look at our front page of our web site and see what your money is buying.  These seeds are some of the best that I have ever had and we should see successful germination rates in the high 80% range. We ship the seeds mixed with moist sand, this helps with transplant shock and keeps the seeds from drying out.

It takes ginseng seeds from 4-6 week to come up from the time of planting.  It takes ginseng 18 mos. to mature.  You want to make sure that they are not some seeds that were picked this last fall and won't come up until next spring.  Another thing to watch out for, seeds with dry hulls.  The embryo's may be alive, but your successful germination rate may drop below 50%.  You get what you pay for.

Ginseng likes two things, Potassium and Nitrogen.   First the potassium, now you can kill two birds with one stone here.  An excellent source of potassium is red bone meal.  This usually available through you local packing houses.  The smell of the blood helps keep rodents and other pests away.  Ginseng thrives on it.  Second, nitrogen.  Decomposed leaf matter is a very good source of this.  To release the nitrogen place small steel rods, like survey rods, in your beds.  During storms these rods gather static electricity and this releases the nitrogen.  For these and other growing tips you might want to read my book, Ginseng Growers Guide.

A book mark on our web site www.ginseng-seed.com  might be a thought.  It is the object of the site to be a living page.  As the seasons change the page will change too.  In closing, if you might be interested in becoming a commercial grower or seed distributor, give me a call at 517-787-6044.  As soon as spring planting is over I would like to do some traveling and meet some of you people in person.
