It's Spraying Time!!!
This Years "Glacial Gold" Ginseng
Crop Is Coming Up Now, This Weekend.
If you follow the recommendations for growing potatoes in your area then
you will be on the right path.
Spraying is necessary during April and May, about every ten days while
the "Glacial Gold" ginseng seedlings are coming up. After that you need to spray about every three weeks until
the plants go dormant in late September. I blend coyote urine in with my spray. This
really keeps the deer and other wildlife out of your beds. Deer do not like to eat
ginseng, but their sharp hooves can do some serious damage to your plants.
Ginseng is susceptible to Alternaria Blight, Phytophthora
Leaf Blight and Phytophthora Root Rot. As a precautionary measure, from the start, I
had been using Manzate2OO DL by Dupont. They no longer make
this. I have found that what they are using for potatoes, works well
for ginseng. It treats the leaves and then goes down to treat the
roots. I use a good emulsifier, if you don't have any, liquid
dish soap will do. This helps the spray stay on the leaves
longer. I have had
some awful nice, healthy plants. Stay on top of it, get out there and check these plants
periodically. The problem with ginseng is if it develops a problem, it can develop it in a
hurry. You need periodic checks. The second you find something wrong with your plants, do
something about it! These things can multiply! Ginseng needs some spray and we know
what works good for them. Especially in the first year's growth, you have to almost
"baby-sit" them. After the first year, it is an entirely different situation.
Ginseng does not always come up every year. It is a perennial
plant. Sometimes they come up one year and don't come up at all the next year. These beds
that I have been working on, I am seeing actually new seedlings coming up with the two and
three year old plants ... These are seeds that did not germinate the first year. The roots
are the same way. Some of the old timers tell me that ginseng can go two, or even three
years, before it will come back up again.
Do not hesitate to contact your local college, they have some
real good extension services. You can learn from a book and you can learn out in the
field.
These books can shortcut your education, what I am trying to do
is keep you away from some of the problems that we've got in ginseng.

Glacial Ginseng always ships our Ginseng Seeds wrapped in
cheesecloth and put into a plastic storage container. These "Glacial Gold" Ginseng seeds can be safely
stored in the container they are shipped in for up to three
months, if kept in a cool place, like your basement or the vegetable bin of your refrigerator. All you have to do is check them
periodically to make sure the seeds have not begun to dry out, moisten slightly if needed.
Our Ginseng seeds are washed,
float tested and decontaminated prior to packaging. The individual portions of seeds
are wrapped in cheese cloth while still moist, placed inside an appropriate sized plastic
baggie and sealed. This during normal shipment starts your germination right there. These
seeds have always been in a closely controlled environment, never really subject to
frequent temperature variations. This is a part of our continued stratification process
that we have developed here at Glacial Ginseng through our research. When these packets
are sealed moist, it traps the moisture within the plastic bag.
When you receive your shipments at your home, place it in your refrigerator.
Youre giving cool steady environments, youre not exposed to radical changes.
You can watch these seeds germinate your own self, from the time you get them, you will
see them develop. All you really have to do is to turn the package over once in a
while. The constant temperature will let the embryo develop slowly. They start
germination during shipment inside of those bags. Leave them sealed. When you get ready to
plant, your optimum time to plant is between the first of March and the 15th of April.
Seeds planted in this time period should yield maximum yields. They should really start to
be just indexing.
As spring progresses and the thawing cycles begin, it
triggers the germination within the ginseng seed. Spring planting will many times yield
better results than fall planting. Your planting window is much briefer and Mother Nature
is very much in charge. You can plant anytime from the 15th of February to the 15th of
April. Ginseng normally comes up around the 15th of April. It takes from four to six weeks
for the plants to come up after planting.
"Fall PLANTING
TIP'S"
Plant early, especially the further North you are. This
gives the seeds a chance to become climatically adapted to the environment that they are
being planted in. This also gives the seeds a chance to be absorbing the nutrients
from the soil that they are going to be raised in. When purchasing your seeds, be
especially wary of seeds with dried out hulls. The embryos may be alive, but your
germination factor will be greatly reduced. Naturally all of our seeds are
float tested and decontaminated before shipment. Quality must be number one.
Our future markets are going to demand it.
Suggested commercial woods planting is
about 40 Pounds to the Acre. You should be realizing about 10 pounds of
seed back for each pound planted in 4 years and about 10 pounds of roots for each pound of
seed planted in 7 years. If you take care of your plants you might do twice that.
We guarantee no dried out hulls. The hull is
what the embryo feeds on as it develops

"Glacial Gold"
Ginseng Seeds
The Serious Ginseng Growers, You Would Do
Well to Purchase Your "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds Early.
Build Your Own Stratificting Pit and Place It Out In The Woods That You Will Be Growing
Your Ginseng In.
This Will Allow The Maxim Time For The Ginseng Seeds to Become Adapted to Their
Environment.
Unisexual Plants, Like Ginseng, Do Not Adapt Well To
Global or Local Weather Changes, This is One of The Reasons That Ginseng Remains on The
Endangered Species List. Ginseng is Primarily a Cold Weather Plant and is
Native to The Northeast Section of North America.
When Growing Ginseng in Warmer Climates it is Advisable to Have The Ginseng Seeds Becoming
Climatically Adapted to There New Environment As Early as Possible.
Ginseng Seeds Have a 18 Month Germination and Can Be Planted
at Any Time During Germination. The Ginseng Seeds are Normally Kept in
Stratification Pits for The First 12 Months and Then Planted in The Fall.
Many Growers Will Keep Their Ginseng Seeds in The Stratificting Pits For 17.5 Months and
Plant in The Spring. This Greatly Reduces Losses to Mice, Voles, Birds, Etc;
Ginseng is a unisexual plant, and when trying to develop a top quality seed, the rules are
a little different. The problem is that the majority of the ginseng seeds on the
market are somewhat inbred. The growers have been replanting their own seeds for too
many years. The way to overcome this problem is to cross breed six or more different
strains of seeds together. This will create a new Variety of
Ginseng seeds. Our goal is to cross breed the heartiest ginseng seed
available and create a vibrant ginseng seed that is more tolerant of disease.
When you successfully blend 6 or more strains of a plant together ,
you come up with a new variety of plant and you have the right to name it. This is
what we have done with Our Ginseng Seeds. Therefore We have named our Variety of
Ginseng Seeds "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds. "Glacial
Gold" is our trade-mark, it'd the brand of our Company,
and it's a serious way to get these plants back to their original State. So little
cross-breeding is being done. The wild plants are so scarce and few and far
between they're breeding amongst themselves. Any unisexual plant or animal that
inter-breeds within itself, creates a genetic clone. Each succeeding
generation is shortening the life span of the ginseng plant. Plants that should be
living 65 or 70 years we are lucky if we can get them to live to be 10 years old.
