Glacial Ginseng Co. Is
Moving There are a number of reasons for this move and I will touch
briefly on the major ones. The foremost of these is in answer to the question, Mike I
bought your "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds now where do I sell my crop? I have
formed into a three way business, first with Frank who is the Senior Vice President of
large financial corporation and was formally with the New York Times. He is the
money and in charge of the publicity. He thinks that he can get me on the front page
of Mother Earth News, because of the work that I am doing to save the endangered species,
American Ginseng. I help plant 100 pounds of "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds
this fall on the 100 A. that he owns near Freeport N.Y. He is going to deed me 5
Acres over looking the Trout pond, right the very top of the mountain, to built my log
cabin on. The view up there will take your breath away. The entire 100 Acres will be
for growing primarily "Glacial Gold" Ginseng, but we will also be growing Goldenseal, Echinacea, Ginkgo Biloba Trees, St. Johns Wort, Blood Root and
all other Forest Types of Herbs. I will be in charge of the farm and collecting the sap
from the Hard Maple trees in the spring of the year. We are going to build a show
place so that you growers can come up and see an example of how it should be done.
We are also going to install hidden cameras, with motion detectors, for people who might
want to help themselves when we are not around. I just put that in there for some of you
growers who have been having trouble with poachers. Makes the Sheriffs job real easy. My job is going to be doing the buying. They have a twin engine Beechcraft and a pilot already lined up and ready to go. I love to fly a plane and maybe I can get enough hours in to finally get my license. We will be flying into your local county airports and will be meeting you harvesters at the airport, weight you crop of ginseng, pay you and be gone to the next airport. We should be able to make 5 or 6 stops and still make it back to N.Y. in time for a late supper. The Roots will then be turned over to Roger to do the marketing. I will be paying fair market value for the roots and will not have to much time to dicker, so come prepared to sell. I also expect to have you bringing some live wild ginseng plants for our replanting program. This the only way that we can put the long life span back into the ginseng that we are already growing. I do not know what the market is going to be this fall, but last fall it ranged from $525 a pound, early in the fall and then dropped to $325 a pound late in the season. Now with a estimated harvest of 70,000 pounds last season, we are talking about the kind of money, that nobody calls chump change. Other business, I wish to apologize for any delays, mistakes or unreturned phone calls in the last 6 to 8 weeks. I have been in and out of the hospital with some internal bleeding problems, 12 days this last time. We have traced the problem to the medicine that I was taking for the tendonitis that I have in my right arm and the fact that I like to take a drink now and then. They changed my medicine and I joined the A.A. I am on my way to full recovery and really starting to feel good. God works in mysteries ways and there for a while I thought it was my time to go. He must other plans for me and I am cool with that. Mary who usually helps me, brought my old 74 chev up to me and parked where I could see it out of my window. She also gave me back the diamond ring. She said that she could not stand the trauma of watching me die as she had to with her late husband Dick. That caused me to spring a fresh leak and my blood pressure dropped from 140 to 100 in a matter of 2 hours. Just can not say enough good things about Foote Hospital, here in Jackson Mi. If only Mary would take the medicine that her therapist wants her to. This is the reason that we have been divorced for the last 2 years and only live together periodically. I am going to find me somebody in N.Y., with her head screwed on straight, to help me build my log cabin and get old with. Somebody who wouldn't have to relocate so far from home. In closing, I have read that page that is on the internet, that says that I do not know what I am talking about. This isn't hardly worth writing about, but if I am am wrong, there are a bunch of people who also wrong. They are from places like Michigan State University, The University of William and Mary, and the Dept. of Agriculture both federal and state. The Forest Dept. also Federal and state levels. Farmers do not plant there same corn year after year, no they buy seed corn every four or five years. Now for the head of a major N.Y. growers association to promote and sell strictly inbred ginseng seeds is not only stupid, but irresponsible. I knew I was hurting your pocket book, but I didn't think was hurting it that bad. As soon as I get settled in N.Y., I am going to join your organization, maybe it needs some new leadership. If you would have been around during the days of the Buffalo hunt, you would have been proud to have killed the last one and probably bragged about it in the local saloon. Ginseng is a endangered species and saving it takes a humanitarian effort. I think maybe that is something that is lacking in you and it makes me wonder how many other genes got left out and why? Taking cheap shots at me is taking cheap shots at the whole ginseng business as well as making yourself look like some kind of a fool. Well at least you did call me a good salesman, this business needs to develop good markets for our ginseng crop, we certainly do not want to have to rely on your intelligence to get that job done.
