Goldenseal, Mary Hunter General Manger Goldenseal Production

Goldenseal usage has been traced back  to the American Indian, as is Ginseng, for  a general health  tonic and used for centuries by many, and research  is discovering it's worth in boosting the immune system, among other  many medicinal purposes.  Balance, always balance.  Man and Nature, Ginseng (oxidizes) and Goldenseal (cleanses).  You can balance  new and old, as in old techniques and new  technology.  The American Indians also used it as antiseptic, to treat snake bites and whooping cough, pneumonia and many more cleansing uses, such as an eye wash and to treat sores.  Recent research has found Goldenseal usage to aid in treatment where topical antiseptics are needed, as  it cleanses the blood of toxic matters.  Ginseng oxidizes your blood.  Because Goldenseal does cleanse your blood of toxins, it can  also mask urine tests for illegal drugs.   This fact alone, tells  of  how Goldenseal  is very beneficial to our health  and well being, it's like getting  an oil change for your engine or  body.

Ginseng Seed Stratification and Adapting To Weather Changes.

Stratifying Your own "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds

Ginseng is a Unisexual Plant.   Unisexual Type Plants and Animals Do Not Adapt Well To Global or Local Weather Changes, This is One of The Reasons That Ginseng Remains on The Endangered Species List.   Ginseng is Primarily a Cold Weather Plant and is Native to The Northeast Section of North America.
When Growing Ginseng in Warmer Climates it is Advisable to Have The Ginseng Seeds Becoming Climatically Adapted to There New Environment As Early as Possible.

This is a very important point for Ginseng Growers, Especially for Growers in Warmer Climates.  What You should be doing is stratifying Your Ginseng seeds in your own Forest.  The more time that these seed have to become climatically adapted to there new environment the higher you germination rate is going to be.  Ginseng seeds take 18 months to germinate, the more of this time spent in your woods, the better your changes of Success.  During Peak Planting Times Seeds can and do get Scarce.
Making Your Own Stratifying Box is very easy and inexpensive.  To Handle 5 Pounds of "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds You would need the Following Materials, 1 2x4x 8', 2 Piece of common window screen 18"x 24"and some nails.  You will also need a bag of Play Sand, usually available at Awl-Mart for about $2.50 for 50 pound bag.
Make a box 18" x24" from the 2 x 4.  Attach One piece of screen 18" x 24" to the bottom with nails or staples, for better drainage.  Next Blend equal parts sand and seeds together and place in the box.  Dig a Hole, preferable on the northeast corner of your woods, large enough for the box.  You wand to have a layer of sand, about 2" thick under the box, to help with drainage.  Attach the top screen and You want the top of the box to be about 1" below the ground level.  Put Sand around the sides of the box and then mound about 3 or 4" over the top.  Cover with 3 or 4" of Leave Mulch and they will keep very nicely until planting Time be it This Fall or Next Fall.
Many Growers Plant Their seeds Green in the fall of the year, but by placing them in a Stratifying Pit you Will Greatly Reduce your Loses to Mice Moles, Etc;  If We Have a Dry Period, go out and Water Your Seeds.

Ginseng Seeds Have a 18 Month Germination and Can Be Planted at Any Time During Germination.  The Ginseng Seeds are Normally Kept in Stratification Pits for The First 12 Months and Then Planted in The Fall.
Many Growers Will Keep Their Ginseng Seeds in The Stratificting Pits For 17.5 Months and Plant in The Spring.  This Greatly Reduces Losses to Mice, Voles, Birds, Etc;

The Serious Ginseng Growers, You Would Do Well to Purchase Your "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Seeds Early.
Build Your Own Stratificting Pit and Place It Out In The Woods That You Will Be Growing Your Ginseng In.

This Will Allow The Maximum Time For The Ginseng Seeds to Become Adapted to Their Environment.

Glacial Ginseng Co. Will Have 2 and 3 Year Old "Glacial Gold" Ginseng Rootlets Available For This Fall's Planting.

"Glacial Gold" Ginseng seeds are washed, float tested and decontaminated prior to packaging. The individual portions of seeds are wrapped in cheese cloth while still moist, placed inside an appropriate sized plastic baggie and sealed. This during normal shipment starts your germination right there. These seeds have always been in a closely controlled environment, never really subject to frequent temperature variations. This is a part of our continued stratification process that we have developed here at Glacial Ginseng through our research.

A Growers Tip That Was Passed On To Me, Plant Echinacea Along The Edge of Your Woods.  It is a Sun Loving Plant and Will Only Grow So Far Back In.  Where The Echinacea Ends The Ginseng Should Begin.  Sounds Good To Me, If any of you growers have or are going To Try this keep me Posted.
