Wanted Commercial Growers For
Glacial Gold Ginseng Seeds

(Panax Quinquefolium) American Ginseng

Ginseng is a unisexual plant, and when trying to develop a top quality seed, the rules are a little different.  The problem is that the majority of the ginseng seeds on the market are some what inbred.  The growers have not been handling their ginseng seeds like they do their corn seed.  The way to overcome this problem is to cross breed different strains of ginseng seeds together. This will create a new strain of Ginseng seeds.  It is the object of Glacial Ginseng Company to gather the very best seed available, by going right to the growers and seeing the plants that they come from.   The Ginseng seeds that are produced from these select crossbreeds will be known as "Glacial Gold Ginseng Seeds" and should prove to be just outstanding plants.

The continued cross breeding of these seeds will in time reproduce the true natural ginseng plant. Ginseng plants will start producing seeds  in the second year and reach good marketability in 7 years. They can have a life span of 60 to70 years.  I always let the first three years of seeds go back, they seem to have a real strong reproductive rate as younger plants.  These plants will go on to replace the weaker plants that nature will thin out.  In your fourth year you will generally go into full size seed pods.  For the next five to six years you will have some outstanding Ginseng Seeds.  After the seventh year they can start to become inbred again.  If you continue to add new stains of Ginseng seeds your beds can be productive for many generations to come.

Market Report For the Season of '99!!
7 Year old Woodsgrown Ginseng roots went for $90.00 to$130.00 per pound.  Wild Ginseng roots at $425.00 per pound.
8 to 10 year old top quality ginseng roots were bring the same as wild.  It takes 70 to 75 dry roots to make a pound.  There are appo. 35,000 Ginseng seeds in our 5 pound ginseng seed kit, now at $6.00 a root, think about it.
What we are starting to see here is acceptance of the woodsgrown ginseng roots by the export market.  The export market looks at the appearance of the Ginseng root first.    Small roots are much more desired, plant your ginseng seeds close, this will encourage small roots and intertwined roots.

Don't worry about Deer and Turkeys etc.  If you put some coyote urine around your patch the Wildlife will simply go around the patch.  Works real good on gardens too.

As the Ginsenosides level (potency) of the ginseng increases so does the value of the mature root . Woods grown ginseng grown in hardwood timber lots has the highest levels of nature's nutrients available during the developmental stage. The "virgin" soil of hardwood timber lots produces ginseng that matches Ginsenosides levels found in wild naturally occurring ginseng.

Ginsenosides Levels:  The Herbal Industry has been making great strides in the area of self regulation and product information.  As I have many times mentioned, the difference in the ginsenosides levels of field cultivated roots versus woods grown roots is very important.  Up until now, we have had no where to really send our roots or other ginseng products to have them tested.  A company in California sent me a card and advised me that they provided this type of service.  I have called them, talked with them personally, they know their business, they can analyze our roots, and virtually, any other herbal medicine products.  You might want to take a look at their web site:  www.phytoanalytics.com  The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers are going to be putting the active ingredients and present levels that they contain on their labels. They won't be buying ginseng roots with a 4% ginsenosides levels . Our plants will produce a much higher level, therefore making "Glacial Gold Ginseng Seeds" the very BEST in the world.

We do have a new process for handling ginseng seeds to increase not only the germination factor but to create back to the original plant. We can get into the little sister’s effect. I’ve got some pictures showing where these little seedlings have come up under 3 year old plantings and these were cross-bred seeds, so the genetic pattern in those young ones coming up is already there.
Ginseng is a unisexual plant that can have 2 to 3 seeds in a single pod, they can all three have different fathers and yet the genetic pattern of all the seeds are being taken up and become a part of the genetic pattern of the plant itself.  Therefore first generation seeds can be really good, by the time you’ve reached the fourth, your weaker plants will have died back.  Your stronger strain seeds, the more natural type plants have come forward and you should wind up in four years time with almost 100% yield and maybe plus. Keep your seed beds close in. Don’t encourage large roots, the market doesn’t want that. This has to be a constant balance between the commercial aspects of growing ginseng, so that we don’t harvest our wild ginseng totally out of existence. The whole purpose of publicizing the facts about the germination and stratification processes that we’re using here is to encourage it to be used through the industry by the growers.
We can not only reestablish an endangered species into the natural habitat within my lifetime, we can go on to make it universally available for its medicinal purposes to the entire world. We don’t know where all this plant will grow, we know it’s basically a colder weather, higher climate type plant, it likes mineralized soils, such as we find on the ancient glacial deposits here in southern Michigan, northern Wisconsin, on into Minnesota. Similar soils are into the Carolinas and mountainous regions of Kentucky and Tennessee. What the ginsenosides level of these plants will be, we don’t know these answers yet.  We encourage feedback from all our growers, we need commercial growers out here that have the appropriate suitable sites. Do you think your site is suitable, send us up a picture or two. We’ll e-mail you back an opinion.

These Ginseng seeds are washed, float tested and decontaminated prior to packaging. The individual portions of seeds are wrapped in cheese cloth while still moist, placed inside an appropriate sized plastic baggie and sealed. This during normal shipment starts your germination right there. These seeds have always been in a closely controlled environment, never really subject to frequent temperature variations. This is a part of our continued stratification process that we have developed here at Glacial Ginseng through our research. When these packets are sealed moist, it traps the moisture within the plastic bag. When you receive your shipments at your home, place it in your refrigerator. You’re giving cool steady environments, you’re not exposed to radical changes. You can watch these seeds germinate your own self, from the time you get them, you will see them develop. All you really have to do is to turn the the package over once in a while.  The constant temperature will let the embryo develop slowly. They start germination during shipment inside of those bags. Leave them sealed. When you get ready to plant, your optimum time to plant is between the first of March and the 15th of April. Seeds planted in this time period should yield maximum yields. They should really start to be just indexing.

As spring progresses and the thawing cycles begin, it triggers the germination within the ginseng seed. Spring planting will many times yield better results than fall planting. Your planting window is much briefer and Mother Nature is very much in charge. You can plant anytime from the 15th of February to the 15th of April. Ginseng normally comes up around the 15th of April. It takes from four to six weeks for the plants to come up after planting.

A lot of the growers that are staying in business are going to the woods, that low end market for ginseng grown under artificial shade just isn't there any more.  They call that type of root poor-man's ginseng, and when the Asian trade was good, the market was there.  The ginseng market is changing rapidly, i.e.;    roots grown under artificial shade produce Ginsenosides levels of 4 and 5% versus woods grown roots that produce Ginsenosides levels of 11 to 19%.  These growers aren't entirely out of the business.   They just aren't putting in fresh crops under artificial shade, they are going to the woods.  Over the next three or four years this is going to cause a real shortage of quality ginseng roots, many manufacturers and large end users are going to come up short.  The internet is educating us about the potency of our product and major American manufacturers are going self-regulating.   Rexall Sundowner is leading the way with their new rotating labels on their herbal medicine products and disclosing the active ingredients.  The future has never looked brighter for our woods grown ginseng growers.

Hope you enjoyed our new page and that you will drop by our site   We have made a lot of updates that we hope that will enjoy also.
