Question for Michael: A thousand rootlets for $650., how much acreage should be used, how much does this cover, and how many lbs. should we expect to harvest?

In reply to your questions concerning 1,000 Goldenseal rootlets, I would recommend you plant them on about 1/4 acre of woodland. You can expect in 3 years (or less) to harvest at least 60 lbs. of Goldenseal. And then you can dig those up and divide them up so that in another 3 years you would harvest at least 180 lbs. of Goldenseal
1st. year 1,000 rootlets-cut up into 4,000 rootlets plant on 1/4acre. Yield of 60 lbs or more.
3rd. year-4,000 rootlets-cut up into 16,000 rootlets plant on 1 Acre Yield of 180 lbs or more etc;

Measures moisture content of soil. Lets you know when to water. Helps you determine if plant is getting adequate light. Helps you control PH level in soil. No Batteries Needed. Can be used indoors or outdoors.
Moisture: Push switch to the moist position. Insert probe deeply into soil reaching root level. Keep probe close to plant. Note moisture level and refer to information for that plant.
Light: Push switch to the light position. Facing the light source, hold the meter next to the plant. Avoid touching sensing element located underneath gauge. Note light level and adjust to plants requirements
Soil pH: Push switch to pH position. Insert probe deeply into soil. A pH reading greater than 7 is alkaline, a reading less than 7 is acidic. Ginseng prefers a pH of between 5 and 6. The chart on package gives light for many indoor and outdoor plants.
To care for meter simply remove probes from soil and wipe them clean after each use.

Evaluations
With A Camera

A service being offered by Glacial Ginseng Company is a visual site evaluation from pictures taken with a camera. A question that I am being asked is "do I have a good site for growing ginseng?" one picture is worth a thousand words, and so what I am proposing to do is to have you go to your woods and starting in the southwest corner, walk towards the northeast corner, at about 2:00 in the afternoon.

Take pictures to your left and to your right as you walk. The number of pictures is kind of up to you and depends on how big a piece of land you are working with, shoot up the rest of the film that is in your camera, a half a dozen good pictures on a ten acre woods should give me an idea of what your site is like. Adjust the number of pictures by the size of your woods. Have someone stand about 20 yards away and try to get the bottom of their feet just nicely in the picture. Take some pictures of some of the places that you think ginseng might do well in and I will evaluate those.

After evaluation of your pictures and judging from the shade, etc. I will promptly mail you a report that will have my suggestions as to the light requirements and other improvements that you might do to your site, that would improve your chances for successfully growing ginseng, (of course, I will also tell you if your site is not suitable for ginseng growing).
